A New Jersey mother and her two young daughters were having a baby for the first time when she discovered that a nurse in her obstetrician’s office was actually carrying out an abortion.
Lena Sosa told The Associated Press that she was driving to her doctor’s office in Manhattan for an appointment when she saw a nurse carrying out the procedure.
Sosa was at a hospital for a routine checkup when she was pulled aside by the nurse.
She says the nurse told her that she needed to have a baby, but that she didn’t need to do the procedure because she was pregnant.
The nurse then pulled out a scalpel and began slicing open Sosa’s abdomen and her daughter’s umbilical cord.
Solicitor Sharon DeFaria told the AP that she saw Sosa lying in a fetal position on the floor.
She said Sosa began to cry as she told her story.
The woman’s lawyer, Steven Goldstein, said in a statement that he has been in touch with Sosa and the hospital.
Stern, who is the former president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, said that while there are some women who undergo abortions and other medical procedures, the procedure is done only after a woman gives informed consent.
He said it is a medical procedure that is performed in the most humane and safest way possible.SBS News 4 reached out to the hospital for comment and will update this story if we receive a response.
